G30 BMW 5 Series’ driving assistance systems

As seen in the spy shots of a prototype, BMW seems to be “secretly” planning a comeback of the 8 Series coupe, which used to be a part of the BMW brigade two decades back. A year later, it’s the 8 Series convertible that will replace the 6 Series convertible. The length of the particular model is exceptionally high and easily the largest in the BMW lineup. The new generation models will be the 7th generation BMW 5 Series G30, which shares its platform with the new generation 7 Series.

From the pictures itself, the 8 Series appears to be quite long, in fact longer than any coupe offering from BMW. The auto will have all the powertrain options available for the 7 series at the moment along with best connectivity technology and in-house entertainment system.

Despite the current 6 Series pitched as a luxurious grand tourer, it is only based on the 5 Series and thus misses out on some of the more advanced features.

Sources close to the company say the 8 Series will rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé and Bentley Continental GT when it’s launched in 2020, with pricing to compete with these, too.

BMW will apparently use much of their technology from their 7 Series in the new 8 Series and this will also include their engines.

The camouflage allows little scope for anyone to guess what’s on the inside but from previous experience and the way BMW has been designing their latest models, it is safe to assume that the design aspects will be borrowed from the BMW 7 series models. We’ll be sure to keep you updated, and report any prototype videos that we find.
