At the First District convention on April 16 in McIntosh County, three pro-Cruz delegates were chosen to go to Cleveland for the convention, that despite Trump beating Cruz overwhelmingly in the district by close to 15,000 votes.

In a preview of his interview with David Gregory for his podcast, “The David Gregory Show”, Romney insisted that stopping Trump depends on whether Cruz and Kasich continue campaigning. “Delegates are supposed to reflect the decisions of voters, but the system is being rigged by party operatives with “double-agent” delegates who reject the decision of voters”.

“There are a lot of reasons, but perhaps the simplest is that if Donald is the nominee, Hillary wins, by double digits”, Cruz said.

Trump told reporters Sunday on Staten Island, “I hope it [the GOP convention] doesn’t involve violence, and I don’t think it will. But I will say this: It’s a rigged system”.

In order for Trump to have a “great night” in NY, he said he would like to win at least 70 delegates in tonight’s primary, adding that if he reaches 50 percent of the vote, it would “be a great tribute”.

Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski asserted on “Fox News Sunday” that rival Ted Cruz’s path to clinching the nomination would be cut off after Tuesday’s NY primary, which Trump is expected to win overwhelmingly.

Only two remaining White House hopefuls in the latest NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll enjoy a net positive rating among registered voters: Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich and Democratic candidate Sen. “It was good enough for Abraham Lincoln”. On the Republican side, there are 95 delegates in play.

“It’s up to the campaigns to know the rules and compete within each of those states with the rules”, he said. Hillary Clinton was in East Harlem.

The nomination rules debate has ensnared Ryan – his remarks Tuesday were delivered at the same location where, just a week ago, he was forced to declare he would not accept the Republican nomination in July if delegates couldn’t agree on a nominee.

Cruz told the crowd he was “pretty sure, here in Wyoming, y’all define gun control the same way we do in Texas – and that is hitting what you’re aiming at”.

Henry Barbour, also rules committee member, put it more simply: Trump’s attack on the party and the delegate selection process is bad politics.

Romney, the party’s 2012 nominee, again warned that Trump will lose badly this fall should he be the nominee.

The delegate fight in Georgia is not yet over, with 31 more Republican delegates – the majority of whom will be bound to vote for Trump on the convention’s first ballot – to be selected at a state convention in early June.

And RNC communications director Sean Spicer dismissed Trump’s comments about Priebus Monday, calling the GOP under Priebus “the gold standard of political parties”.

The delegates were awarded based on state party rules that were established long before the primary.
