GAA move Antrim & Meath Christy Ring Cup final replay

The replay was originally fixed for this Saturday evening in Newry, which Meath felt was unfair, “in the interest of player welfare and appropriate preparation”.

Even though it is custom and practice to present trophies in GAA finals immediately after the game, the result does not become official until the referee’s report is adopted by the Central Competitions Control Committee.

“Given the unique circumstances involved, the C.C.C.C. agreed to postpone the game.”

While Meath indicated that they were willing to fulfil the fixture they wanted it to be played on the weekend after next in Croke Park.

The original match which took place this weekend was chalked off over a scoreboard error which had awarded the win to Meath when the match had in fact finished in a draw.

Today’s decision by the CCCC gives both counties adequate time to prepare for the replay and comes a week after Antrim’s clash Derry in the Ulster SHC semi-final.

“We have also requested that this game be played in Croke Park, as befits the status of a national final”.

Meath have confirmed they are happy to replay it but on Saturday week in Croke park and not this Saturday in Newry.
