The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Gunners are out to strengthen their defensive options at The Emirates after Gabriel Paulista joined Per Mertesacker on the sidelines.
Arsenal’s defensive crisis meant 20-year-old Rob Holding, a summer signing from Bolton Wanderers, was included in manager Arsene Wenger’s starting lineup alongside an otherwise strong XI. But certainly it’s an ankle sprain.
Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny are yet to regain their match fitness after taking an extended break following on from their Euro 2016 exertions.
One thing is for sure, Arsenal fans won’t enjoy hearing Wenger’s comments.
“I know it’s more glamorous to sign a £60m player than to give a chance to a young player, but in my job you have to look and focus on the quality of the player, and not just the numbers”.
FC’s Paul Mariner and Mark Donaldson discuss Arsenal’s latest injury problems in the team’s defence.
The France global is a player he knows well, but he was priced out of the bidding when Mangala left Porto to join the Citizens two years ago for £31m. “We think it will be four to five months for both players”.
Carl Jenkinson has not been sent out for his customary loan to West Ham as yet, but is another injury concern after a serious knee injury.
Calum Chambers and new signing Rob Holding are now Arsenal’s only fit senior centre-backs according to the Mirror.
That’s right, Gooners. Apparently, your club – who now have approximately one and a half fit defenders – have plenty of players.
The injury appeared to be series as Gabriel was given oxygen as he was carried off the pitch.

Sources close to Lacazette have claimed that the player himself is quite keen on a move to the Premier League to become an Arsenal player, but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has been adamant that the club’s prize asset will not leave.
