Galaxy Note 7 banned from flights on Qantas, Jeststar, and Virgin Australia
Starting from September 19th, owners of faulty Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices can exchange their handset for a new phone, Samsung has announced. What’s worse is that the FAA could ban the Samsung’s device from being taken into flights. Besides Australia, Samsung is recalling and replacing more than 2.5 million Note 7 phones which could cost the South Korean phone giant more than US$1 billion (A$1.3 billion). Tham Hua, a Victorian said on Wednesday in Melbourne that his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploded in his hotel room, bursting into flames.

Samsung Australia is voluntarily recalling over 50,000 of its Galaxy Note7 smartphones after discovering the batteries of some phones exploded while they were charging. The latest report is an exploding Note 7 taking out a Jeep and totaling the vehicle.
“Following the world wide recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 Personal Electronic Device (PED), we are requesting that passengers do not charge them inflight”, the spokesman said.
The only reason the FAA hasn’t enforced the ban yet is because Samsung’s recall is technically not entirely official, as it wasn’t properly coordinated with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Until the new Galaxy Note7 stock arrives, a loan device will be provided as an option, according to the statement. Samsung said it narrowed the problem to a “battery cell issue” in the device’s lithium battery.
