Galaxy Note 7: Samsung announces global recall over exploding battery issue

Samsung suspended sales of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone on Friday, just two weeks after the flagship phone’s launch, after finding batteries of some of the gadgets exploded while they were charging.

The galaxy note 7 was to be made possible in the Indian business and there have been totally 35 cases that have been listed globally and now leading a precise review with suppliers to know possible changed batteries in the Indian market.

All major USA carriers have stopped selling Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, and some of them have even offered customers the option to trade their device for another one in the company’s portfolio or get a full refund.

The recall of the Note 7 is a blemish on Samsung’s so far very successful 2016, and certainly takes some momentum away from the company at a time when it needs it the most.

It is now confirmed that the faulty battery unit is the root cause for the handsets exploding or catching fire while charging them. This is a large hit for the company, considering it has already sold 2.5 million devices worldwide.

Samsung said it’ll replace the phones in “coming weeks”.

Koh Dong-jin, the head of Samsung’s handset business division, told reporters that 24 out of 1 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have been affected by the defective battery.

Samsung has stopped global sales of the phone and is issuing replacements phone for customer who have already purchased the device. The Galaxy S7 has been a successful product, the Note 7 has received positive reviews, and the Gear S3 smartwatch was introduced at the IFA consumer electronics trade show this week. “We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible”, he company added in the statement.
