Game of the Day: Notre Dame at Stanford

The one thing that could hurt Stanford in this one is if Notre Dame builds up a nice, early lead and the Cardinal have to throw it consistently to get back into the game.

Odds: Stanford -3.5; Over/under 56. “So, yes, the goal was to make it to the playoffs and we know that that opportunity kind of fell away with this loss”. It’s great that they added another tally to the win column, but if they play like that against Stanford everyone can kiss those playoff dreams goodbye. Irish coach said. “All we want to do is put ourselves in a position to be considered”.

“Now, once we go back and evaluate how the last couple games have been in the red zone, we’re going to try to put together a better plan to try to end up with six points at the end of the drive rather than three”.

Notre Dame’s next game will be whatever bowl game they get, probably a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Rivalry games can be tricky and both Clemson and Alabama had difficultly pulling away in their annual in-state grudge matches.

While Shaw is not in campaign mode, Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly believes his team should be in the playoff with a season-ending win at Stanford. Notre Dame’s complete and total inability to execute and take care of the ball in the red zone cost them the Clemson game, it cost them style points last week against BC, and tonight it cost them whatever tiny chance was left for them to reach the College Football Playoff. They barely beat Boston College. A possibility that could ship Notre Dame to the Fiesta Bowl would be Temple beating Houston in the AAC Championship, and since Atlanta makes more sense for the Owls, it could lock the Irish into a trip to Arizona to avoid a re-match. Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey is hoping to do just that. Oh and for what it’s worth, he also has a 28 yard touchdown pass on this season’s résumé.

Kelly told reporters that “it’s tough to win games”.

It doesn’t matter when it ACTUALLY happened, all that matters is that the finale nail was delivered on the last game of the season with the last play. Freshman running back Josh Adams gashed the Cardinal defense for a 62 yard score.

Hopefully C.J. Prosise will be playing in Saturday’s game at Stanford; when Prosise is firing on all cylinders, so are the rest of the Fighting Irish.

We have noticed an terrible lot of people coming into UHND on a weekly basis from Google using terms like “what time is the Notre Dame game today?” and “what channel is the Notre Dame game on today” so we made a decision to do a weekly post on gameday with the answers to those common gameday questions.

“It was one of those games where it seemed that whoever had the ball last was going to win”, Hogan said.

Much of the responsibility for scoring the upset over Notre Dame falls on the shoulders of 23-year-old Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan, a fifth-year senior who grew up a Notre Dame fan thanks to almost 25 family members who have graduated from the respected South Bend, Indiana, institution.

Instead, the fairy dust settled on Stanford and its quarterback, Kevin Hogan. Despite Kizer’s shaky ball control against Boston College, he’s proven that he can be one of the most effective quarterbacks in the country. Even nudging him a little bit, messing with him. “It’s hard to describe how you feel in a time like this”.

MISSING PIECE: Stanford will be without at least one key starter with fullback Daniel Marx out for the season with a lower-leg injury. Notre Dame started the drive with a three tight end personnel grouping with only Fuller lined up out wide. He also recorded his second career 300-yard game.
