‘Game of Thrones’ author ‘tired’ of Marvel’s movie villains

Ant-Man is out now in both the US and the UK. Why is Pym estranged from daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly)? Hope has seen what Cross plans to do with the tech once he’s perfected it, and the dangers this presents. It gives the film a loopy and lopsided quality that is necessary, because treating something like “Ant-Man” with the same earnestness as other superhero movies would have resulted in laughs of the wrong kind.

Yellowjack is basically the evil version of Ant-Man in the new Marvel movie. This despite us being introduced to just about every major character, and every plot element short of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, freshly out of prison and fired from his first legitimate job, deciding to jump into the robbery pool one last time and burgle the house of a man who’s out of town. “But I wanted more Wasp, and I loved the old original Hank/ Janet dynamic (before they got to the wife-beating stuff)”.

Like GotG, this film is an enjoyable breather between the big, heavy hitters – Age of Ultron this year, and Civil War next year. Nonetheless, we come out feeling satisfied that there’s more in store for the character in the future as teased at the end of movie. Corey Stoll as Darren Cross gives us the taste of the right amount of a baddie, an exact opposite of everything Scott’s personality is – and, that serves as a good enough balance between the two and for the story to turn out as it does.

After a shocking directorial exodus and a series of rewrites, Marvel’s Ant-Man has finally made it to the screen-and it’s a reasonably enjoyable piece of summer fare, thanks to the total charmer playing the title character. Russell Carpenter’s cinematography is quite good, especially during the fight scenes when the camera needs to move fast. In the beginning there is some drama, but that transcends and goes deep into a sci-fi, action-pack film.

A recent interview compilation from MTV UK has piqued our interest, with the cast and director asked to detail their favourite Ant-Man scene that got left on the editing room floor.

At least the final act fight, ingeniously confined mostly to one room, has wit and character far superior to Marvel’s usual superheroes vs. baddies vs. city brawls (which are the butt of one very quick, clever joke). He takes them anyway, and his curiosity gets the better of him, so he tries on the suit. Hank’s reason for not calling it in with the Avengers and/or Tony Stark/Iron Man is just plain childish. But it is no more an anarchic masterpiece-which is what some fanboys will want you to believe-than the Salman Khan-starrer. The writers could have failed themselves and the audience here. “Ant Man” avoids this by never losing sight of how ridiculous it is. Marvel wants us to know that they’re not limited to The Avengers, they’re just not going anywhere.

Claps for: Humor, Action Scenes, Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and for being different! From here on starts a series of events that ultimately culminate into Lang becoming ANT-MAN.

Ant-Man” is slated to join the Marvel universe pretty soon and will be seen in the next “Captain America” film due for release in 2016. The first big teases from the film will be unveiled at Disney’s D23 Expo, no real surprise there since Marvel’s movie leg opted to sit out from San Diego Comic Con.
