‘Game of Thrones’ bids to make Emmys history
“We always try not to overly plan too much”, says Mischer, whose team has worked on 13 previous Emmy broadcasts. And Hugh Laurie arrives with a seventh nomination, for The Night Manager, still looking for his first Emmy or a visit to Susan Luccis counseling couch. Los Angeles Times writer Glenn Whipp wrote in his column predicting the winners for the upcoming telecast.

With recognition this year of Mr. Robot, after just one season on the air, and multiple nominations going at last to The Americans, the Emmys suddenly seemed more in line with actual current television. The other thing that should be kept in mind is that “black-ish” is more of a pure comedy than any of the cable or streaming offerings.
The nominations were announced by Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham on July 14, 2016.
Angela Lansbury may be a TV icon to the public, but apparently not to Emmy voters. Lansbury has been nominated 17 times overall for various roles.
Since 2014, Broad City has been one of the weirdest, funniest shows on TV with Ilana Glazer providing laughs with her stoner-extraordinaire character, Ilana Wexler. The Irish actress nails the stubborn resourcefulness that the nurse possesses, but she was not rewarded with a nomination for the best lead actress in a drama.
The most star-studded category is perhaps lead actor in a limited series or TV movie, which includes six-time Emmy victor Bryan Cranston, who has received rave reviews for anchoring HBO’s Lyndon B. Johnson biopic All the Way.
As reported by Billboard, 35-year-old “Yonce” plus director, Kahlil Joseph, are nominated for “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series;” along with the special’s editor, Bill Yukich, who’s nominated for “Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming”. The Americans, which has come in from the shadows, is making a strong showing at this year’s Emmys, but is that enough to blow Schreiber and Spacey out of the race?
Our other major Emmy contender is not in one of the nine major categories: actor Ben Mendelsohn, who stars in the Netflix drama Bloodline, is nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, against competition which includes Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Jon Voight (Ray Donovan). There are four outstanding programs that could bring home the 2016 prize. Rodriguez’s performance has critics and fans gushing about her charm, but she will have to wait another year to be recognized by the academy.
The American co-stars and real-life lovers are nominated for the very first time for the Emmys.
Winning an Emmy is not easy. They cost somewhere around $400 each to make.
That’s because ESPN’s nearly-eight-hour documentary, “O.J.: Made in America”, premiered several days after the window for this year’s nominations closed on June 1. No one has had that many repeat victories in the category before, but another trophy would also make her the most-celebrated actress in the category in Emmy history as she’s now tied with Candice Bergen and Mary Tyler Moore with five wins each (Dreyfus has a previous win for The New Adventures of Old Christine).
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t actually need to be a living creature to take home the trophy.

The Emmy Awards won’t be presented until Sunday night, but the festivities have already begun.
