He had plenty to say about People Vs OJ Simpson: “Because everyone in LA knows if you want to win, sit next to Marcia Clark”.

In the battle of the networks, perennial leader HBO finished top with 22 Emmys-six on Sunday to add to its 16 from the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony last weekend. It wasn’t the most groundbreaking show on television, but it was hard to look away once you started watching. They accounted for four of the 27 awards, and only one for a prime-time scripted series. Netflix had three, Amazon had two, and BBC America, USA, AMC, and Comedy Central all had one.

“Master of None” scored its first Emmy award, winning Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Black star power was in full effect during Sunday night’s Emmy awards.

Hari Nef and Priyanka Chopra also tied for first in the competition: Dress Most Likely To Be Worn By A Smiling Model In A French Perfume Ad.

“If your show doesn’t have a dragon or a white Bronco in it, go home right now”.

Meanwhile, the Rami Malek won the award for lead actor in the drama series “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany won the award for the best female actress for her vital role in Orphan Black. He added to Clark: “This must be very unusual for you, right?”

The top comedy acting awards were more predictable.

During his opening monologue, Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel called out producer Mark Burnett, the producer of reality series “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Apprentice” which Donald Trump hosted, saying “who is to blame for the Trump phenomenon?”

Jeffrey Tambor, the star of the comedy “Transparent”, said in his speech that there should be more transgender actors. She dedicated her award to her father, who died on Friday.

She promised to rebuild the wall between comedy and politics and “make Mexico pay for it”.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics; our show started out as a political satire but it now feels like a sobering documentary”, she said on stage.

The presidential campaign was foremost in many minds. “Hillary in!” and Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, who has played Clinton on the NBC show during this election season and won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, thanked the candidate in her acceptance speech (and Clinton thanked her back on Twitter).

Kimmel took a breezy approach to hosting, with some of his best moments coming in quips as the night progressed, as opposed to the more produced opening sequence.

HBO won 22 trophies, FX took 18.

Winning actors from the Simpson series couldn’t hide their excitement backstage.

Supporting Actor, Comedy Series: Louie Anderson, “Baskets”.

Holding Smith’s trophy, Kimmel said it would not be mailed to the 81-year-old actress. “And I’m so glad that he liked “Veep” because his opinion was the one that really mattered”.

Actor, Limited Series or Movie: Courtney B. Vance, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”. “I’m sorry. I mean, you lost, and now you’ve gotta stand out here for the rest of the night when you probably just want to go home and curl up and cry”.

John Oliver was a victor for his weekly comedic news commentary program “Last Week Tonight”, giving HBO its first Emmy in the variety talk series category since “Tracey Takes On.” was honored in 1997. The loss “makes a lot of sense”, Damon said.

Smith went on to win the award for supporting actress in a drama for her role as the Dowager Countess on “Downton Abbey”. As has become her custom, she didn’t attend the ceremony.
