‘Game of Thrones’ earns a leading 23 Emmy Award nominations

The 68th Emmy Awards, including the star-studded Red Carpet preshow, will telecast live from The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Sunday, September 18 (7:00-11:00 p.m. ET/4:00-8:00 p.m. PT) on ABC.
All told the fictionalized version of the famous case scored 22 Emmy nominations, but failed to top HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, which came in with 23.
Last year’s victor for best drama, “Game of Thrones” will compete for the Emmy with “The Americans”, “Better Call Saul”, “Downton Abbey”, “House of Cards”, “Mr. Robot” and “Homeland“, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Thursday in Los Angeles.
Limited series “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” stands to reap nods for its multi-ethnic cast that includes Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran; Cuba Gooding Jr.as Simpson; Sarah Paulson playing Marcia Clark and Kenneth Choi as Judge Lance Ito. Emmy Award-winning live television and event producer Don Mischer will executive produce the broadcast hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
Speaking of FX, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story figures to be a strong contender in the limited series category.
Actress, Drama Series: Taraji P. Henson, “Empire”; Claire Danes, “Homeland”; Robin Wright, “House of Cards”; Viola Davis, “How to Get Away With Murder”; Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black”; Keri Russell, “The Americans”. Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington have been nominated for portraying Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow, respectively.
Nominations for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced, as “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson and “Gilmore Girls” star Lauren Graham announce 12 categories. The Good Wife was shut out in its final year of eligibility, and neither Rhea Seehorn nor Uzo Aduba made the supporting-actress list for Better Call Saul and Orange Is the New Black, respectively.
