Jon Stewart is gone from “The Daily Show” but not forgotten by Emmy voters, who gave the late-night show the best variety talk series award Sunday over two hosts who have moved on, Stephen Colbert and David Letterman.
“Game of Thrones” did most of the heavy lifting, snagging a record twelve Emmys, including honors for directing, writing, visual effects and Outstanding Drama Series.
The show also saw Tony Hale presented with the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus poked fun at the American presidential race as she scored the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series award for her role as President Selina Meyer.
The sixth series of the hit show is now filming with some supposedly deceased characters spotted shooting in Belfast as well as several new faces.
“There has been a awful mistake, clearly”, said Hamm, who played troubled ad man Don Draper in the series that ended its run without adding another best-drama trophy to its haul of four previous wins.
The HBO series which unfolds the political world of Washington on the small screen with a touch of humour, beat out old-time favourites including “Louie”, “Modern Family“, “Parks and Recreation“, “Silicon Valley“, “Transparent” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”.
Actor, Comedy Series: Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent“, Amazon Instant Video.
Writing, Comedy Series: Simon Blackwell, Amando Iannucci, Tony Roche, “Veep“, HBO. New Emmy rules redefined “OITNB” from a comedy (where Aduba won last year) to a drama series.
Variety Talk Series: “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart“, Comedy Central.
“I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community….”
Mom star Allison Janney earned her historic seventh Emmy Award win tonight (September 20).
“Thank you so very much”.
They handed out dozens of trophies at this year’s Emmy Awards, but the real victor was HBO.
Actress, Limited Series or Movie: Frances McDormand, “Olive Kitteridge“, HBO. Honest the best part of the show was Andy Samberg’s opening number.
It was the first time hosting for the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star, and reaction to his songs and jokes was definitely mixed.
