She thanked the show’s producers “for this incredible dream job”. “I would very much like to be the last cisgender male playing a transgender female”.
This past Sunday, “Game of Thrones” made history, Maggie Smith got dragged, the “Stranger Things” kids sang and delivered sandwiches, and Kit Harington hit on Kyle Chandler.
“She goes to other award shows”.
Kate McKinnon won best supporting actress in a comedy for her work on “Saturday Night Live”. The FX anthology show, which revisited the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, almost swept its nominated categories with awards for best limited series, outstanding writing and acting (for Sterling K. Brown, Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance).
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards were a chance for Hollywood to celebrate the best that television has to offer – except the rest of the country’s invitations apparently got lost in the mail.
Jimmy Kimmel who earlier said that he wasn’t excited to host Emmys this year, finished his opening monologue and asked, “Are we ready to make the Emmys great again?”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, accepting her fifth consecutive best actress Emmy for HBO’s “Veep”, jokingly lamented that real politics is beginning to resemble the Washington world her comedy series pokes fun at. Regina King won the award for supporting actress in a limited series for “American Crime“. All due respect and congratulations go to the folks at FX for the armload of Emmys “The People Vs. O.J. Simpson” collected at the awards.
He said: “This year for the first time ever, you must be present to win”.
This year’s edition comes amid a creative resurgence in small-screen entertainment fuelled by a shift in at-home, on-demand viewing that has led to what critics have called television’s second golden age. “I’m so glad he liked ‘Veep,’ because his opinion was the one that really mattered”.
American Crime Story, a dramatisation of the 1995 murder trial of the U.S. football star, won nine Emmys, including the award for best limited series.
The Emmys also did not shy from honouring minority talents as Indian-origin actor-writer-director Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang received the best writing for a comedy series honour for “Master of None”.
“I am so glad that he liked Veep”, she said, her voice breaking down as she accepted the award. He dedicated the award to his daughter and late wife, who passed away unexpectedly this year.
John Oliver won variety talk category for “Last Week Tonight”, the first year the award was handed out in post-Stewart-and-Colbert era.
