Game of Thrones, HBO dominate Emmy Awards

We do think that there are certainly other examples of actors who are frequently missing in action at these awards shows; in particular, we’re talking about other UK-based names as Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch, who were not in attendance despite “Luther” and “Sherlock” being nominated. After Smith’s win, Kimmel said her Emmy would not be mailed to her but would be kept in the Microsoft Theater’s Lost and Found until she shows up to claim it. Kimmel opened up the night with direct jabs at the Republican nominee, blaming producer Mark Burnett for making Trump famous through the reality show “Celebrity Apprentice”.

In an attempt at comedy that fell flat, the ceremony announcer indicated that Bill Cosby would be taking the stage.

Dame Maggie Smith would like her Emmy, Jimmy Kimmel. James, did you get a juice box?

Paulson hailed “this incredible group of actors, these magicians”, particularly praising co-star Sterling K. Brown, who won a supporting actor Emmy for his work portraying co-prosecutor Christopher Darden. But she knew who to credit. “I would not be unhappy if I were the last cisgender man to play a female transgender”.

Maggie Smith was named best supporting actress in a drama series for the final season of “Downton Abbey”.

While Ross did not win the award, plenty of other actors and actresses representing minorities and people of color did. “No, no, no, no, no”, Kimmel said. When Maggie Smith hears she’s nominated for an Emmy, she has the same reaction the rest of us have when we get one of those 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond (store) coupons in the mail. The Emmys should be played for that guy who made the bouquet of TV Guide pages on “Seinfeld”. “And I am glad that I’m able to stand here in front of everyone today and say, I’m sorry”.

Rami Malek and Tatiana Maslany won the top acting in a drama awards for Mr Robot and Orphan Black.

“Oh my god. Please tell me you are seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, 35.

In his monologue, Kimmel reminded everyone that the TV world is more diverse than ever, then noted, “Here in Hollywood, the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity”. Later she had the audience eating out of her hand when she said: “I feel so lucky to be on a show that puts women at the centre”. The pause was for the now-required feed-the-guests bit, and the host brought out – on bikes, of course – the young cast from the Netflix sci-fi thriller to deliver what he said were 7,000 sandwiches his mother had made.

All of which Kimmel took down nearly immediately.

For the comedy series awards, Jeffrey Tambor of Amazon’s “Transparent” won the Outstanding Actor award while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the Outstanding Actress award for her performance on “Veep”.
