Backstage, actress Regina King took note of the Simpson series after winning a supporting award for “American Crime”, the only victor from a scripted series that aired on one of the commercial broadcast networks.

The Emmys are just not her cup of tea. “I was very astonished and pleased to win the award”.

In his opening monologue at yesterday Emmys, host Jimmy Kimmel took aim at the 81-year-old’s tendency to rack up Emmy after Emmy, year after year, without ever bothering to turn up to the ceremony to actually accept in person. “We have work to do”, he said.

Kimmel also took over the stage when Dame Maggie Smith won best supporting actress in a drama for her role on “Downton Abbey“.

Amazon Prime is the home of “Transparent”, victor of two Emmy Awards (Jeffrey Tambor, Actor in a Comedy Series, and Jill Soloway, Directing for a Comedy Series).
