Game of Thrones’ Major Hodor Reveal Came From George R.R. Martin

For the past six seasons, the Starks have played a major part in the Game of Thrones narrative. Jorah certainly got his wish to leave the Khaleesi’s service on his own terms, though it’s hard to read if Daenerys ordering him to find a cure has any plausible return, or perhaps offered one last bit of goal dignify to her old friend’s final days. “The Door” also teased on several fan theories about Bran Stark and finally revealed why Hodor became Hodor, but not without heart-breaking consequences.

Exhausted of waiting for the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow) to dole out the next important piece of information, Bran got cocky and made a decision to take his first vision quest alone on Sunday’s episode. That is, of course, until the outsider blowhard steps in to demean the female incumbent’s credentials, brush off his own inexperience, and promise to make America the Iron Islands great again, though Euron’s plan to Wednesday Daenerys at least offer the first real promise of connection to the overall story in three seasons.

Bran looks to be in some trouble this week as he faces an army of White Walkers.

The White Walkers attacked the First Men and the Children of the Forest about 8,000 years ago in a battle called “War for the Dawn”. The Night’s King ended up touching Bran, and the Three-Eyed-Raven warned Bran that the Night’s King would come after him. Bran is everything he is because you loved him. The Night’s King killed the Three-Eyed-Raven, and the Raven disappeared in the past.

“We had this meeting with George Martin where we’re trying to get as much information as possible out of him, and probably the most shocking revelation he had for us was when he told us the origin of Hodor and how that name came about”, said Benioff. Meera runs out and finds the White Walkers standing outside. But Bran wouldn’t wake up, and Hodor was freaking out. In season four, when they were captured by Roose Bolton’s man Locke, Bran warged into Hodor to kill Locke and escape. He eventually shortens this to “Hodor”, and that becomes the only thing he can say for the rest of his life after that event. Meera drags Bran behind her, while, in the past, Bran sees the child Hodor fall to the ground, experiencing what seems like a seizure.

“Game of Thrones” Season 6, episode 5, “The Door” felt like an episode from an earlier season as i was able to focus on a handful of storylines to deliver meaningful developments.

Last week we had a long scene which not only showed Ned Stark’s survival at the Tower of Joy, but teased the birth of someone.

At least Meera and Bran got away, and at least Hodor died a valiant death, but damn.

He was repeating what Kinvara was yelling at him, in the present, so does that mean that somehow, Bran’s actions have already altered the past in some way?

It’s possible, however, that the Three Eyed Raven was still technically right. Will he continue to have the ability to view the past? Later on, with her new protector Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) by her side, she sets out with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and their posse to drum up a proper army to go head-to-head with Ramsay. She uses her unexpected reunion with Petyr Baelish to force him – repeatedly, and with the implicit threat of Brienne’s sword – to confront what was done to her by Ramsay, the maniac he married her to.

Jon, Sansa and their allies at Castle Black know they need more armies to fight Ramsey, so they decide to go out and recruit other houses in the North, including the Tullys.

Arya gets her fist mission, but it appears to be another test from Jaqen H’ghar.

Yara makes her claim to lead the Iron Islands, but her uncle Euron swipes it out from under her. This show of strength wins over the Ironborn and Euron is crowned King. Filming the scene “was a bit awkward”, she revealed. She will work to help spread the word of the good work that Daenerys had done for her people by the deal Tyrion struck in her absence. Don’t read on unless you have seen that episode.
