The 68th Annual Primetime Emmys averaged 11.3 million viewers on Sunday night, according to ABC.

This was clearly a win for her fans, who for the past four seasons have been really campaigning for her and finally saw their efforts rewarded.

But despite her many nominations and victories, the great lady has never actually attended an Emmy ceremony.

USA comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who emceed the ceremony, took time out from his opening remarks to berate Mark Burnett, who produced The Apprentice, the reality show that made Trump a household name in the US.

Kimmel blamed Trump’s candidacy on producer Mark Burnett who created the real estate mogul’s show – The Apprentice.

The 2016 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama series victor found Kimmel’s attack amusing and responded via a statement, in which she wrote: “I was very astonished and pleased to win the award”.

The Outstanding Comedy Actor gong went to Jeffrey Tambor, who plays a transgender woman in Transparent, for the second year in a row.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”.

“I am holding this because of you”, she said on stage at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

“We have a new rule this year: for the first time ever, you must be present to win”. He ends up hitching a ride to the Emmys on a dragon to make his hosting gig on time.

“The People v OJ Simpson”, which is the dramatic retelling of the infamous O J Simpson’s murder trial, was honoured for its writing and captured several acting awards.

“For me to stand here as not the typical leading man, and to have come home with this, I think speaks a lot about where we’re headed, and I think we can just keep going further in that direction”, said Malek, who dedicated his award to all those who feel “voiceless”.

Master of None scored its first Emmy award, winning Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Regina King won the award for supporting actress in a limited series for “American Crime”.

Three of its stars – Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams – dominated the betting in the supporting actress category, but the statuette went to Maggie Smith of Downton Abbey. (And who could be cruel enough to object, after she revealed that her father died Friday?) That was followed by another repeat victor, Jeffrey Tambor forTransparent, but in his case any other result would have been a miscarriage of justice. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won for Outstanding Variety Talk Series and when he was done accepting the award, he asked to be played off the stage.
