‘Game of Thrones’ receives Guinness world record, Maisie Williams accepts
In an attempt to curb piracy earlier this year – and also stop desperate fans from opting to watch the show via online streaming sites – the popular HBO series aired the second episode of its fifth season, The House Of Black and White, in 173 countries, all at the same time, beginning at 2am on 20 April 2015.

HBO’s Game of Thrones will join the likes of Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Taylor Swift in the 2016 edition of Guinness World Records.
Maisie Williams – who plays Arya Stark in the programme – accepted the award on behalf of the “Game of Thrones” cast and joked that she won’t spoil the surprise for her step-brother who “gets the book every year for Christmas”.
The British singer-songwriter’s 2014 ballad “Thinking Out Loud” took a record-breaking 19 weeks to reach the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart.
Taylor Swift hauled in the award for most million-selling weeks on U.S. albums charts. GoT dethroned previous record holder CSI by two countries.
Actress Vergara is enjoying success as the highest earning actress in a current TV series for the third year in a row.
“I’m so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records“, Williams said.
“The global public never tire of reading about their favourite stars, and Guinness World Records is more than happy to chronicle their success”.
