John Travolta is flying high in more ways than one after The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’s big night at the 2016 Emmy Awards.
The series won five trophies, including the award for limited series, movie or special.

The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story was the biggest victor at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the United States on Sunday night, with Game of Thrones, Veep and Transparent also honoured in a number of categories.
For the 41-year-old actress, it was her first ever Emmy win, and it was a long time coming, according to most critics and her legion of fans.
The fantasy series also won for writing for a drama (David Benioff and D.B. White), and directing (Miguel Sapochnik).
Game Of Thrones toasted a record-breaking night at the Emmys, while Dame Maggie Smith triumphed for Britain at the TV awards.
Dame Maggie was not there in person to accept the award, so host Jimmy Kimmel joked: “We’re not mailing this to her. Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found”.
During one pause in the trophy conveyor belt, Kimmel managed to make a freaky moment of things rarely combined peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, the TV show “Stranger Things” and O.J. Simpson. “I wonder if he’s having a viewing party with the guys”.
Rami Malek was named best lead actor in a drama series for his role in Mr. Robot, while Tatiana Maslany won best actress in a drama series for her performance in BBC America series Orphan Black.
Clinton tweeted her congratulations to Kate McKinnon of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”, who won a supporting actress award for comedy.
“House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey, a double Oscar victor who has never won an Emmy, missed out again for best actor in a drama, a prize which went to Rami Malek, the star of cyberspace security thriller “Mr. Robot”.
But perhaps the strongest denunciation of Trump came from Transparent creator Jill Soloway, who likened the bombastic billionaire to Hitler. The streaming service was also recognized for “Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping”, which won for writing for a variety special, and Mendelsohn for “Bloodline”.
Jeffrey Tambor won best lead actor in a comedy series for his role in Transparent and urged the television industry to provide more opportunities for transgender actors. FX tied HBO with six wins, with honors for “Baskets” in addition to the limited-series wins for its Simpson drama.
Last weekend, Game of Thrones dominated the Creative Emmy Awards, picking up nine prizes for technical achievement.
While HBO had to share the limelight, its night was far from shabby.
The US star fought back tears as she collected the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series award, saying: ” I’m so glad that he liked Veep because his opinion was the one that really mattered”.
Kimmel wasn’t the only celebrity to reference Trump’s proposed wall on the U.S. -Mexico border; While accepting the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus took time to personally apologize “for the current political climate”. It was her sixth lead actress win overall, a record for the category.
She then brought a gasp from the audience when she dedicated the award to her father who passed away on Friday.
John Oliver of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” won the Emmy for top variety talk series.
For the second year in a row Julia Louis-Dreyfus won two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role as the vainglorious United States president Selina Meyer in Veep, as well as the best producer award for a comedy series.
Limited Series: “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”.

The best television movie honour was given to “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride“.
