‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 3 Recap: 3 Highlights for ‘Oathbreaker’

But I cant change the plans So many readers were reading the books with so much attention that they were throwing up some theories and while some of those theories were amusing bulls**t and creative, some of the theories are right. While the sword fight between Ned and Dayne had interesting implications, fans really wanted to see what was happening in the Tower of Joy, but we were denied!

The third episode of the HBO show’s sixth season saw Bran Stark and the Three-Eyed Raven journeying into the past to witness a major moment in Westerosi history – Ned’s fight with legendary knight Ser Arthur Dayne at the Tower of Joy in the Red Mountains, the location of Lyanna Stark’s mysterious death.

Yes, Jon Snow is alive and…not well exactly, but he’s doing alright for a guy who got stabbed a few dozen times and woke up to find that someone gave him a summer bob cut while he was out.

Many believe Lyanna was lying in a bed of blood because she’d just given birth to a baby and her dying wish was for Ned to raise the child as his own to protect him from Robert.

Second, it would play into the theory that Jon, Daenerys, and Tyrion are the ‘three heads of the dragon’ (there’s a solid fan theory that Tyrion is actually a Targaryen, not least because his hair is described as a more white blonde of the Targaryens than the golden blonde of the Lannisters).

But that’s not the reason why GoT fans are having a ‘mare. We get a shot from Ned’s point of view showing him alone in the field, and Bran’s mentor tells him his father was probably just distracted by a sudden gust of wind. We got Ned acting honorable.

Oathbreaker would have been a good watch if we had some great debates, conversations or even a powerful dialogue or two that the series throws at us ever so often.

“Where’s my sister?” Ned asks, referring to Lyanna Stark, who we first met as a young woman in last week’s episode. “Presumably, Lyanna was in pain from giving birth, but we won’t know until next episode (next season? never?) what’s going on, because, to quote the Three-Eyed Raven, ‘if you stay too long, you’ll drown'”. Nothing much happens here; Game of Thrones is literally just reintroducing the character (let’s hope he’s more interesting the Bran), but given that Jon has left Castle Black and is potentially on his way to Winterfell this is an important development. Since those Bran flashbacks are going rather slowly, it may take longer than we end up liking.

Meanwhile, Jon Snow, the man at the center of the theory, was forced to deal with his resurrection during Sunday’s episode and did so by killing the men who led the charge to murder him.

Now what? “Game of Thrones” isn’t entirely about Jon Snow, but Kit Harington confirmed that Season 6 is his character’s biggest season to date.

In Winterfell, Ramsay Bolton receives an unexpected gift from Lord Umber Smalljon, who’s seeking an alliance.

Thanks to her role in Games of Thrones, Turner bagged herself in the role in the new X-Men film. However, in the books the scene is shown as a dream of Ned Stark (Sean Bean).
