Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere Breaks New Record for Show
By these standards, EW reports that the “GoT” premiere was down 1 percent from previous year (7.9 million) and 4 percent after the repeats (758,000 and 205,000) were calculated into the total. And “Veep” (1.098 million) was slightly above its year-ago premiere (1.048) and almost on par with its season high set with the finale (1.112 million).

Sky is estimating a viewing uplift of about 70%, meaning the season six premiere could end with a consolidated audience of more than 3.7 million. As of Monday, there were over 200,000 active seeds of the season six premiere ‘The Red Woman.’ These numbers obviously aren’t accounted for in total viewership, but represent the extreme popularity of the series, now one of television’s biggest weekly events.
Game of Thrones is still one of the most popular shows on TV and only getting more popular.
“This marks the most watched series premiere in Australian subscription television history”, a Foxtel spokesman said.
This year’s piracy numbers aren’t anywhere near last year’s numbers, but since fewer than 24 hours have elapsed since the show aired, the numbers are staggering.
Well, that’s another season of Game of Thrones started, and it’s already making new records.
This does come as no surprise considering how many people were pumped for the premier of a season HBO have been teasing for some time.
Game of Thrones star Brenock O’Connor has revealed he received death threats after his part in killing Jon Snow. Game of Thrones also dwarfed the number of viewers for Veep’s premiere. “Bran meets the past” seems to signify a warging-fueled flashback, so we’ll see just how much the young Padawan has learned from his master.

NBC’s “Nightly News” topped the evening newscasts with an average of 8.1 million viewers.
