The show, a dramatic telling of a story of two families vying for a throne, was named the Best Drama Series among nominations that included “Better Call Saul“, “Downton Abbey“, “Homeland“, “House of Cards“, “Mad Men” and “Orange Is The New Black”.

While Viola Davis bagged the outstanding actress in a drama series award for “How to Get Away With Murder“, becoming the first African-American woman to receive an Emmy.

“The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity”, an emotional Davis said. Tambor, who won Outstanding Lead Actor on a Comedy Series for his role in Transparent – which also won for Comedy Directing in a Series – became the first male or female actor to win an Emmy for playing a transgender character.

“Thank you, HBO, for believing in dragons”, said “Thrones” executive producer David Benioff in accepting the award.

Modern Family is a 2015 Emmy victor for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation. It’s impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast and these incredible people.

“Game of Thrones” was the big victor at the star-studded ceremony in Los Angeles, raking in 12 awards, and HBO also struck gold with “Olive Kitteridge“, about a couple whose marriage is in trouble, which won eight trophies.

He went on to say: “Not to repeat myself, but to specifically repeat myself, I’d like to dedicate myself and this award to the transgender community”. His performance was almost always pitted against Bryan Cranston’s for “Breaking Bad“, another AMC series, with Cranston winning nearly every year.
