‘Game of Thrones’ to End After Season 8, but 7th Still Ahead

Earlier today HBO programming president Casey Bloys talked about the popular fantasy-series with the press during Saturday’s Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, and he didn’t mince words for GoT fans.

Weiss and Benioff previously revealed to the publication that they wanted to end the show at 73 hours with seven episodes in 2017, followed by a final eighth season running for 6 episodes. Benioff and Weiss wanted to push back filming to shoot in more wintry-looking weather.

HBO will end Game of Thrones after season eight, leaving us with only two more seasons of bloody battles, jostling for power, gratuitous nudity, and physical and metaphorical backstabbing.

Now, HBO has officially confirmed that Game of Thrones Season 8 will be the show’s conclusion.

During his executive session, Bloys answered questions from journalists and critics about other topics. “The guys are thinking about it”, Bloys added. It’s expected to premiere in the fall. The recent examples cited are “The Night Of” and the upcoming drama, “Westworld”.

Bloys reiterated that an episode count for the eighth season – which is all but a formality – has yet to be determined but noted that conversations for a spinoff remain on the table.

“True Detective” – not dead yet: Bloys said the anthology series isn’t dead, despite the criticism the second installment received.

After some uncomfortable silence, Bloys said that he considers the violence on HBO to be “not specific to women” and “indiscriminate”. The idea is that Stewart will produce multiple animated shorts per day that respond to daily news in real time and be released on HBO’s digital platform HBO NOW. “David [Milch, Deadwood creator] is writing the script”, he said.

– Bloys also said canceling the The Mick Jagger/Martin Scorsese music series Vinyl was a hard decision. With any luck, they might even realize they need an extra hour or two for the final season and it gets pushed up to seven or eight hours, but as of right now, even that is looking dubious.

Westworld premiere: The highly-anticipated series Westworld, an adaptation of the 1973 movie about killer robots from Person of Interest’s Jonathan Nolan, will premiere on October 2 at 9/8c.
