Julia Louis-Dreyfus accepts the award for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Veep, her fifth win.

Meanwhile, the Rami Malek won the award for lead actor in the drama series “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany won the award for the best female actress for her vital role in Orphan Black.

He wasn’t quite on target – Tambor did win, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” cleaned up, and “Game of Thrones” won outstanding drama.

He called out Sarah Paulson’s decision to bring Marcia Clark (who she plays in “The People v. O.J.”) – “everyone knows if you want to win, sit next to Marcia Clark”. It was her third win for playing the formidable dowager.

Regina King claimed the award for supporting actress in a limited series for American Crime, her second trophy for the program.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said.

In her acceptance speech, Louis-Dreyfus said: “Our show started out as political satire but now feels like a sobering documentary”.

Louis-Dreyfus ended her speech by dedicating the trophy to her father, who she said died Friday.

Kimmel opened the show by matter-of-factly jumping off the stage to hand an Emmy to Jeffrey Tambor, the star of “Transparent” and a victor previous year.

“We’re not mailing this to her”, Kimmel joked.

British comedian John Oliver won the outstanding variety talk series award for Last Week Tonight, beating James Corden’s Late, Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Kimmel was also the butt of a bit. “I missed the last category”, he said to Kimmel.

He even took a little heckling from actor Matt Damon, with whom he shares an ongoing fake but entertaining feud.

SNL actress Leslie Jones, who has been the victim of hackers recently, asked the Emmy accountants, Ernst and Young, to protect her twitter account and naked pictures.

“We need to stop violence against trans women and topple the patriarchy”, said Soloway, whose show is about a trans woman. “You know you can make $12 an hour driving for Uber?”

“Here in Hollywood the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity”, Kimmel joked during his opening.
