Veep took home a pair of Emmys Sunday night for its biting political satire, but the showrunner of the HBO series thinks the current election cycle is no laughing matter.

For this year’s awards, Golden Globe-winning “Mr. Robot”, a conspiracy thriller about a troubled hacker, is vying for the top drama series award and best actor honors for star Rami Malek.
It is Smith’s fourth Emmy win and her third for playing the Dowager Countess of Grantham on the series, which aired for six seasons on PBS.
Fantasy drama series “Game of Thrones” and comedy “Veep” won the top Emmys for a second straight year on Sunday, fending off challenges from newcomers.
Paulson, 41, also said she learned a lot about Clark in preparing for the role, and it changed her opinion of her. “I think it’s changing the landscape, period”, he said.
“Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, who plays an emotionally troubled engineer caught up in a risky hacking conspiracy.
Tambor, 72, won his second straight Emmy for lead actor in a comedy for his transgender role in “Transparent”.
She promised to rebuild the wall between comedy and politics and “make Mexico pay for it”.
She also broke the news to the crowd that her father, William Louis- Dreyfus, died on Friday.
Louis-Dreyfus won in the past for her roles on “Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. The prize for supporting actor in a drama went to Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline“.
She also joked that her widely-acclaimed show had started as a comedy but was increasingly resembling a documentary – a slap at the chaotic USA presidential campaign. “The People v. O.J. Simpson”, FX’s 10-hour dramatization of the former football player’s 1995 double murder trial and sensational acquittal won nine Emmys, including for best limited series, writing, for lead actors Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance and supporting actor Sterling K. Brown.
Louie Anderson was honored as best supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of a loving but tough mom in “Baskets”.
“I have not always been a very good man, but I play one hell of a woman”, the 63-year-old comedian said.
Somewhere out there Jonah Ryan is probably taking credit for this, but everyone knows that’s a lie.
The politically charged show also featured a surprise cameo from ex-presidential hopeful Jeb Bush, who appeared as a limo driver in a pre-taped sketch segment, asking Kimmel what it’s like to be nominated.
The Democratic presidential contender responded quickly with a tweet: “Congratulations on your Emmy, Kate!”

In another revision, this one implemented a year ago, voting was expanded from blue-ribbon panels to – depending on the award – giving substantially more or all of the academy’s 20,000-plus members the chance to vote for finalists. “Big fan of yours, too”.
