Something odd has been brewing this week in the Patriots secondary.

The New Orleans Saints lose to the New England Patriots 26-24 in the Superdome for their second preseason game of 2015.

“I think that’s going to happen fairly soon here and yet it’s not a focal point right now just because of where we’re at”, Payton said. “It’s something we relish and something we look forward to”.

No doubt that there are several other players that could be one misstep or two towards finding themselves on the wrong side of the bubble in just a week and a half on September 1st when the roster is cutdown to seventy-five.

Moss, 38, spent three years of career in New England, including 2007 when he caught a record-high 23 touchdowns in the regular season before the Giants ruined the Patriots’ undefeated season in the Super Bowl.

They are two of the smartest and most respected players on the squad, and it’s time to see whether the linebackers are fully healthy (both are coming off major injuries) and ready to get back to get to the daily pounding of NFL life. What more can you say?”.

“You want the real answer or the political answer?”

The Patriots themselves have been very quiet during this whole situation, unless you count the days after the game when head coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft were forced to speak on the matter. New Orleans might have led by more if not for three failed 2-point tries, one on a run by Khiry Robinson, the others on incomplete passes intended for Marques Colton and Brandon Coleman. Brown’s impressive charge has vaulted him into the starting lineup.

Moss did add that he was impressed with Brady’s work in practice though, as he took all reps and had only four incomplete passes. Harmon wasn’t tested by Rodgers or Brees. Although he was not the starter, he rushed for 391 yards, and two touchdowns.

Slater is a reserve who is better known as a special teams leader.

Then there is Joe Morgan, who has been brilliant in spurts but often injured and never consistent during his first four pro seasons.

Jimmy G completed 28 of 33 passes for 269 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Garoppolo continued to throw short, but he was on time with his receivers and many of his completions were darts. Although these games don’t mean much, the lack of offense didn’t make anyone happy. So, it just looked good to me.”. Rob Gronkowski suited up but did not play for the second straight preseason game. Defensively, the New Orleans Saints yielded 251.2 yards in passing and 132.8 yards in rushing.

– The top story of the day was Tom Brady.

“For me, it would be wasted energy”, Payton said. “I’m good. I’m fine watching”.

Jimmy Garoppolo proved that he should be able to fill in for Tom Brady
