Game Recap: Lakers Blown Out As Warriors Break NBA Record

The Warriors logged 10 of their 32 assists in the first quarter. The two-win Lakers (2-12), with the worst record in the West and second-worst in the league, provided little challenge for the defending champs.

During a timeout, a Golden State fan named Adam was given 45 seconds to make a layup to win free haircuts for his entire section, a free throw to get the entire lower bowl the same treatment and a three-pointer to win the prize for the entire arena.

“I doubt it”, a smiling Stephen Curry said.

Golden State opened as 17-point favorites to make history and made Vegas look smart by building a 30-11 lead after one quarter. “If we’re not making shots, it seems like our defense gets lackadaisical”.

All in all, it’s pretty much the greatest commercial Great Clips could ever ask for. “They are real champions”. The Warriors’ next target will be the 22 in a row recorded by the Houston Rockets during the 2007-08 season.

Still, it was a truly pitiful performance, with the Lakers getting just 28 points out of their starting five, whereas Warriors guard Stephen Curry single-handedly poured in 24. In 30 minutes of action in a game that was decided in the first quarter, Green scored 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out five assists and adding two blocks. But the Warriors responded immediately with Curry scoring seven points as part of an 11-0 run.

The bench accumulated 42 points, which has been a consistent stat for the Dubs.

They have forever been the ones creating history, spending decades beating up on foils like the Golden State Warriors. But they didn’t lose a game.

Of course this season is still its infancy but the Warriors return every significant contributor from last year’s 67-win squad.

Curry is putting up incredible stats and the Warriors have yet to lose. His competitive spirit was on full display, and he wasn’t soaking it in like some might expect.

“I think Draymond has shocked everybody but himself. So I know he’ll come out of it”.

In 2008, the Pats made it to the Super Bowl on the heels of a 16-0 regular season but lost a shocker to the Giants, courtesy of David Tyree’s helmet catch. “I’m just glad to not be letting my boss Steve down”. “It wouldn’t have got my vote. It requires the staff to step up, the players to step up”.

According to Walton, Kerr also addressed the team at the morning shoot-around.

Golden State’s next two games are Friday at Phoenix and Saturday at home against the Sacramento Kings. He keeps things in perspective. “He emphasized to them how proud he was watching them, because we’re hitting all four of those values”.

The core principles Kerr relies on, and Walton mentioned, shine through the locker room.

So, what’s the formula to beat a seemingly unbeatable team? There are no egos involved. They share the ball, they play for one another. He’s such a good guy, he really is happy for all the success we’re having right now.

But there was one last night in Atlanta that I can entirely get behind, for reasons that go far beyond sports. “But you can’t be content because it’s only November”.

Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said he does not think the team will reach the 33 win mark now because the team will soon embark on a long road trip, which will include games against Toronto, Indiana and Boston. “This turned into a mini-goal a couple of games ago”.

Asked about the Warriors going after the 33-game winning streak record and a 72-win season, he wouldn’t rule out the team’s ability to approach those. If they do not relent, their match schedule suggests that they could go unbeaten, at least until they play James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 25.

It will be tough to remain undefeated over that 13-day stretch, but these days, it’s hard to count the Warriors out.
