This year, Morgan figures to have a better shot at actually winning the honor, which went to his teammate last year, star Jaylon Smith.

Fellow Mountain West players represented on the 51-man Butkus Award watch list are Fresno State’s Jeff Camilli, Boise State’s Tanner Vallejo and Calvin Munson of San Diego State. The award, named in honor of legendary linebacker Dick Butkus, annually recognizes the nation’s top collegiate linebacker.

Notre Dame’s three 2017 linebacker commits – David Adams, Pete Werner and Drew White – were named to the Butkus Award’s high school watch list.
