Gameplay Footage Of Cancelled XBLA GoldenEye Surfaces Online
Around 2010, rumors started flying about a remake of GoldenEye 007 that Rare was working on for Xbox Live Arcade.

Today, the YouTube channel Rare Thief uploaded what they claim is 30-minutes of footage from this shelved remake that has never been seen before.
For those unable to watch the video due to some unforeseen circumstances, the video above begins with GoldenEye 007’s Dam mission, while Surface, Facility, Cradle, and Aztec also go on to be displayed.
Although you won’t be able to tell from the video itself, the counter in the top-left indicates that the game would have run at a very steady 60 frames per second. Microsoft (the current owner of Rare), Acitivsion (the current owner of the James Bond game license) and Nintendo (who helped publish the original GoldenEye 007) were said to have reached a licensing agreement for the project. Apparently, the video game would have brought in HD graphics along with an N64 graphics that gamers could switch between at any given time.
It’s really a shame, because as the gameplay video shows, GoldenEye 007 looks great with a modern coat of paint. However, according to Unseen 64, the plug was pulled on the project when Nintendo failed to give the project the greenlight at the last minute. Not to mention, there’s also a sparse bit of multiplayer action toward the end, but it’s important to note that only one person is taking part in it.
Everything went smoothly, but for unknown reasons, Nintendo Japan made a decision to pull out from the development at last minute, causing Rare to get rid of the entire production.
Although there are many permutations of GoldenEye 007, the true original can be played on the Nintendo 64.

There has since been speculation that Rare instead used the engine and software to work on a Perfect Dark port that would eventually release into the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace.
