Microsoft has acquired the startup behind sales gamifaction platform FantasySalesTeam as it looks to bring fantasy sports-like competition to its Dynamics CRM products. “Their platform is very efficient at growing group collaboration, productiveness and consequently driving higher outcomes and enterprise progress”, Stutz stated. “Individual and team results become highly visible, driving both competition as well as collaboration and creating positive, impactful cultural change”, continued Stutz. And it said it will evaluate how to apply FantasySalesTeam’s feature set to other areas outside sales in the future. For instance, Service Corporation global piloted the software with 130 reps and compared their performance to 700 others. Workers using FantasySalesTeam on average closed 88 percent more deals at 213 percent the average contract value.

FantasySalesTeam’s clients have included names like HP, Siemens, Michelin, GuideOne Insurance, FSU Credit Union, Service Corporations worldwide, Bayada, Comcast, Wireless Zone, UPack, AllOverMedia, Lionbridge, IntraLinks, J.J. Keller & Associates and others. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“In the coming months, we will integrate and offer this service to our customers and will continue to support customers using FantasySalesTeam with other CRM solutions”. He told us he’s seen internal development and engineering efforts push for ideas around gamification, especially in the sales enablement arena.

From Shimmin’s perspective, the ability to cull technology that relies on a sociological factor to drive greater motivation is important and has been proven to be a workable idea. “Just as we saw with things like SEO in the 1990s, people and companies will “game” the system”.
