Retired telecoms engineer Alec Warburton, 59, has not been seen since 31 July.

In the wake of his sudden disappearance, police launched an appeal for information and said that the 59-year-old’s M-reg Peugeot 205 was spotted in north Wales before returning to Swansea.

Forthy-year-old David Ellis is wanted by Welsh police, who are expected to seek his extradition.

A spokesman said the force was liaising with Irish police about the suspect’s extradition back to the UK.

Days later, it was found abandoned at Birkenhead port and officers said Ellis had arrived in Belfast via ferry on 6 August.

That discovery of the vehicle prompted a fresh appeal for information and saw Welsh officers sent across over to Ireland.

He was remanded to appear in Harristown District Court next Friday, after a special sitting of Galway District Court this morning.
