“After the whole season, what I went through, tonight’s very rewarding”, Mitchell said. “It’s been my goal all year to get back here”. Stroman struck out only three against NY on April 14 but scattered two runs and three hits across eight innings to earn a win.Mitchell was recalled with the expanded rosters and is getting a chance in the rotation spot vacated by Chad Green (elbow), though manager Joe Girardi indicated that several pitchers could get a long look on Wednesday. They closed within 2 1/2 games of Baltimore for the second AL wild card and are 4 1/2 behind Boston. “Our guys are having fun competing on a daily basis, and the hope is that we can keep that up”.

He blew a couple of really good hitters away with heaters. “We’re excited for this last month”, McCann said. The 29-year-old rookie replaced Brad Peacock.
“(Mitchell) was a big loss, but he’s back now”, Girardi said before the game.
Yankees: RHP Bryan Mitchell was promoted from Triple-A before the game and is likely to make his Yankees debut this year. He entered 0-3 in the majors, pitching mostly in relief for NY over the past two years. “That’s all you can ask for at this time of the season”.
Stroman has pitched eight innings five times this season but has not done so since July 20 in Arizona. Severino was aided by a replay reversal in the seventh, and Edwin Encarnacion flied out to the wall in right field with a runner on to end the eighth.
Martin Perez (10-10) allowed four runs – two earned – and seven hits in six innings to win for the third time in his last 13 starts.
Coming into this series, Toronto was 18-7 against NY since last year’s trade deadline.
New York Yankees’ Starlin Castro celebrates with teammates after the Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in a baseball game Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, in New York.

Yankees: Rookie catcher Gary Sanchez was given the night off.RF Aaron Judge also was rested before entering on defence in the seventh.
Joe Girardi wasn’t comfortable calling this series sweep a statement, “But we keep getting closer, and that’s the idea here”, said the manager. Betances probably will be unavailable again Thursday, Girardi said.
Betances made it interesting in the ninth, walking the first two batters while working his third straight day. The 24-year-old, making his Major League Baseball debut, struck out three and walked just two.
