Gareth Bale not in Real Madrid’s squad for UEFA Super Cup

Following Real Madrid’s 3-2 extra-time win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, club president Florentino Perez did not count out the possibility of further signings.

Sevilla have won the Europa League for the last three times in-a-row, however, couldn’t win any of the UEFA Super Cups that they qualified for in the last three years.

Sevilla seemed poised to hold out for the win but paid a high price for some sloppy, tired defending in injury time, when Ramos made it 2-2 by heading in a centre from the lively Lucas Vazquez.

Marco Asensio had given Madrid the lead with a brilliant strike before Franco Vazquez equalised shortly before half-time.

Yevhen Konoplyanka slowly rolled in the penalty opposite goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

Galactics certainly want to win the first trophy of the season, but their mission won’t be easy at all, considering that few Ronaldo and Ramos are not 100% and they are not announced in the starting eleven.

Madrid expect to be officially informed of a one-year transfer ban by Federation Internationale de Football Association by the end of this week meaning they will be unable to sign any new players. That’s why I think Real will win today, Sevilla is still very much a work in progress while Real Madrid have already beat Chelsea and Bayern Munchen this summer.

However, Sevilla were back level four minutes before half-time when Vitolo brought a cross down on his chest at the top of the box, and Vazquez picked it up and shot past Casilla.

“We fought to the end against a great side”, said Sevilla defender Nico Pareja. “The team, despite the players missing, have shown what they are about here and to start the season with a title is always incredible”.

“We are working on it, we will see what happens”, Zidane said.

An unfamiliar Madrid starting XI featured just four of May’s victorious UCL starters, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and other stars still recovering from their global exertions this summer, and 20-year-old Asensio taking his chance to shine. He’s grown as a player, too. “He played in the Euro and has barely done any pre season with us”, stated the Argentinian who has taken over from Unai Emery.

“We have many players and I am not going to say that I am asking for another midfielder”.
