In an interview earlier this year, Marshall also discussed plans for a third Princess Diaries film and a musical version of Pretty Woman – saying his work, and six grandchildren, were continuing to keep him busy. He had a heart of the purest gold and a soul full of mischief.
Marshall’s first big screen blockbuster was 1990’s Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts as a highly idealized hooker and Richard Gere as her client-cum-Prince Charming.

He created some of the 1970s’ most iconic sitcoms including Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne and Shirley, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Mork and Mindy and went on to direct hit movies including Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries.
Starting out as a journalist at the New York Daily News, Mr Marshall went on to become a successful TV scriptwriter and was behind hit United States sitcoms Laverne & Shirley and Mork And Mindy starring the late Robin Williams.
His publicist, Michelle Bega confirmed the news first reported by Access Hollywood that Marshall had died of complications of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital in Burbank.
Actress Sarah Paulson, who appeared in Marshall’s 1999 film The Other Sister, said: “Garry Marshall, I am forever indebted to you”.
On Tuesday, Winkler tweeted, “Thank you for my professional life”.
Howard said: “He was a world class boss & mentor whose creativity and leadership meant a ton to me”.

He is survived by wife Barbara and their children Lori, Kathleen and Scott.
The funeral service will be private, but a memorial is being planned for his birthday on November 13.

Working with Marshall throughout her career (both Princess Diaries films, as well as 2010’s Valentine’s Day) had a great impact on the actress, as she expressed in her essay.
