Garry Shandling called 911 for help before death

“The Larry Sanders Show” was a satiric look behind the scenes of a late night comedy talk show that ran from 1992-1998. The show had nearly a documentary like show and if you’ve ever watched Curb Your Enthusiasm there’s a strong likeness.

The cause of death has not yet been disclosed, but sources have told United States entertainment site TMZ that Shandling died from “a massive heart attack”.

Retired late-night television host David Letterman, whose NBC show was offered to Shandling, and declined, when Letterman moved to CBS in 1993, said in statement: “Stunned and sad about Garry”.

Comedian and actor Omid Djalili said 66 was “way too young” and hailed Shandling as “such a amusing man”. “I was just shell shocked, and I was a complete zombie”.

O’Brien described Shandling as a rare breed of comedian who was not only hilarious but “really did care about other people”. Conan explained that after losing his gig as host of The Tonight Show, his wife convinced him to take a trip to Hawaii to recover. And magically, Shandling was staying in a room nearby.

Garry Shandling, a comedian, actor, writer and producer best known for starring in the Emmy-winning “The Larry Sanders Show”, has died at 66.

During Garry Shandling’s now haunting last comedy gig, he spoke about his failing health and funeral.

In the aftermath of Garry Shadling’s unexpected death on Thursday, HBO has plans to bring his most treasured series back to the air.

“I love you, Garry”, O’Brien said.

Seth Meyers talked about how important and influential The Larry Sanders Show was to him as a comedian. He also mentioned how a repeated line from the show (“It’s not “best of” Larry”) reassures him when his show isn’t as good as he wants it to be.
