Gary Johnson joins Gaffe Hall of Fame, but NY Times, too?
During an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the Libertarian Party presidential nominee on Thursday flubbed a question on the Syrian civil war, asking, “What is Aleppo?”.

The answer is a city in Syria that is at the center of the refugee crisis and civil war there.
“About Aleppo. And what is Aleppo?” he responded.
“You’re kidding”, replied a stunned Barnicle.
Some social media users expressed disappointment, posting pictures of the devastation in Syria with statements such as “This is Aleppo”.
Johnson said the crisis was the result of the USA support of a regime change.
“Probably 85 percent of the people in the country couldn’t put Aleppo on a map, so I’m not sure the effect of the slip is going to be lasting at all”, he said, per the Globe.
Johnson did eventually offer an answer to the question, blaming an American policy of “regime change” for the Syrian crisis and indicating that he would partner with Russian Federation to put for an end to the crisis.
“OK, got it”, Johnson said, going on to provide a general answer about the Syrian conflict, where he said the only viable option “is to join hands with Russian Federation to diplomatically” resolve the conflict.
Johnson looked confused and eventually asked, “What is Aleppo?”.
As part of a media blitz in NY to try to raise his polling numbers enough to qualify for the upcoming presidential debates, Johnson fielded a range of questions Thursday with the aim of demonstrating he can take on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
“I do understand Aleppo”, he continued later in the interview. “But when we involve ourselves militarily, when we involve ourselves in these humanitarian issues, we end up – we end up with a situation that in most cases is not better, and in many cases ends up being worse”. “And in many cases ends up being worse”.
Johnson told the gathering, “I’m sorry” for his gaffe on Aleppo. “You can find Aleppo on a map”, she said. “Believe me, no one is taking this more seriously than me”.
“There’s no excuse. I was thinking in terms of an acronym -Aleppo”, he explained. The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the capital city newspaper of the key swing state of Virginia, endorsed Johnson and his running mate, former Massachusetts Republican Gov. William Weld, last weekend, breaking with a 36-year streak of endorsing Republicans.
Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson received a lot of attention in the past two days for his longshot presidential bid as a Libertarian-but not all of the publicity was good publicity.

However, he has just 8.6 support in the current average of opinion polls by website RealClearPolitics in a matchup with Clinton, Trump, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
