Gary Kubiak is pleased with Peyton Manning’s progress

The Patriots signed former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball to their practice squad.

Manning resumed throwing last week but did his limited on-field work away from practice time.

Manning stood on the sideline Sunday after skipping Denver’s trips to Chicago and San Diego and watching the Broncos overtime win against New England from inside the locker room area.

To the surprise of Brock Osweiler, who reportedly has been named the starting quarterback for the Broncos on Sunday, Manning practiced with the scout team.

The Broncos have been careful not to make a decision regarding their future at the quarterback position.

For the first time in a month, Peyton Manning suited up and joined his teammates for practice.

Will Kubiak stick with the younger quarterback in Osweiler? Manning went to see noted orthopedist Dr. Robert Anderson is Charlotte, North Carolina. Aggressive treatment of his foot injury followed, beginning with rest, a walking cast, and finally a boot.

Coach Gary Kubiak was very careful to call Manning’s return the “next step”.

Osweiler needs to continue playing good, not only for his team but also for the starting spot. Both of those are home games. While some sources close to Manning have said he wants to play at least one more season, others have said that he would retire and move immediately into a front office job, with a handful of teams including the Cleveland Browns interested in making him a general manager.

In comparison, Manning and Osweiler are close when it comes to statistics. “That’s no disrespect to Brock”, said Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who gave Osweiler an “A-plus” for his play the past four weeks.

Peyton Manning returned to practice…to run the scout team. He was bothered by the injury during the week and then got stepped on in warmups. Hillman and the rushing attack did not do much on Sunday and Hillman finished with just 20 yards on 12 carries.

“I was told to go to the first-team huddle, and you’re the starter this week, and that’s what I did”, Osweiler said.

“It was great to have him out there”, Osweiler said of Manning, via 9News.com. I’ll talk to (head athletic trainer Steve Antonopulos).

The Pittsburgh Steelers sport a dynamic offense, but feels like the pressure is on Denver’s offense rather than the Broncos defense, considering the offense’s poor showing last weekend against Oakland. “We’ll have a plan in place by the time we get to Wednesday, but we’ll see where we’re at today, and kind of take it a day at a time”. They are 17th in rush offense and 18th in passing offense. In fact, they weren’t even for the second team.
