Gary Kubiak suggests Paxton Lynch could start for Broncos in Week 1
If the defense struggles against offenses led by quarterbacks like Trevor Siemian then it could get pretty bad.

“It felt good. Coming into the game, coach told me how we were going to split up the reps so I knew that I was going to have to sit there for a while and watch”, Lynch said. Then he patted the quarterback on the back and put his headset back on.
“He told me a few things”, Siemian said.
“It’s always been me”, Green told reporters.
Denver, who had secured a 22-0 victory last week in Chicago, hosted the San Francisco 49ers in their preseason home opener; a home opener that would result in a 31-24 loss for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Whatever game situation the Broncos found themselves at that moment was minor.
Rookie Paxton Lynch is still in the running for the Denver Broncos quarterback job. “It might be one (QB) for 16 (games)”. It might be all three for 16.
What was a murky quarterback competition is now muddy and messy.
You might remember that Broncos coach Gary Kubiak replaced the legendary Peyton Manning last season after a four-interception effort against the Kansas City Chiefs. “I know I’m better than I showed tonight”, Sanchez said.
“I foresee myself trying to find a way to fix some mistakes”, the coach said. “I’m going to take it a day at a time. That’s where I’m going right now”.
Once the quarterback situation gets sorted out, it should be another enjoyable season for Broncos fans.
Mark Sanchez completed 10 passes for 120 yards but lost two fumbles and was sacked three times.
The likely path seems like a Siemian/Sanchez nod to start the season followed by a mid-season transition to Lynch. He has gone 17 of 26 for 163 yards in his two games, no TD passes, and that one interception.
In his immediate postgame interview on television, Kubiak only referenced “two” different quarterbacks, appearing to indicate the starting gig would come down to Siemian and Sanchez. “There’s no excuse for that. Poor, poor quarterback play”.
The Broncos will attend a team meeting this afternoon and work in their weight room but will not practice. He is incredibly athletic and extremely fast for his size; the others cannot turn the corner on bootlegs the way he can, or extend plays and use his cannon to fire the ball way down the field to his receivers-rumor has it he can throw it 80 yards in the air. We had a chance to come out of this game as well as he could, except for that one play when you think about it. Then Saturday, in a preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams that was meant to be a final dress rehearsal, may instead be another quarterback tryout.
And even the rookie, Lynch, who was a clear No. 3 when camp started, now may factor into the mix. Sanchez could have chiseled his starting spot in stone Saturday by following Siemian and playing well. “I got my opportunity to make the best of it and I think I did that”.
The NFL will require an official explanation from a team if they rule out an injured player on game day, following his exclusion from the injury report. You go out and run plays.

Kubiak also stated the importance of protecting the ball. That’s the most important thing.
