Mr Cameron said he “absolutely agreed” with Leicester East MP Keith Vaz, who said the former England striker should fulfil his pledge to present the football highlights show in his underwear.

Lineker, who played for Leicester between 1978 and 1985, has been a vocal supporter of the Foxes throughout the season and sent a series of tweets to express his delight last night.

It seems @David_Cameron is keen to see me in my trousers.

Vaz was wearing a Leicester scarf in the Commons for the second day running when he asked about Gary Lineker’s underwear during Prime Minister’s Questions, the BBC reported.

Cameron replied: “I absolutely agree”.

For those that missed it, he donned it again in PMQs as he asked Mr Cameron about Gary Lineker’s trousers.

‘He’s not quite answering the question, something that of course no one ever gets away with in this house’. “Obviously I hope it’s just the start of him joining the blue team”, Cameron said.
