Gary Lineker: Yaya Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk needs to shut up

Star midfielder Yaya Toure looks to have played his last game for Manchester City as boss Pep Guardiola flexed his muscles over attacks on the Spanish coach and the club by the player’s agent.

But Seluk, who claimed Guardiola had humiliated Toure by leaving him out of City’s Champions League squad, has said it is the Spaniard who should be saying sorry.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure’s career, both for club and country, took two very different turns Tuesday.

When asked for the reason, Guardiola, said: “It was so hard for me to put him out of the Champions League, so hard”.

“I can not imagine in my day when a player’s agent would go to the media and speak against Johan Cruyff”, he added. He warned him that the 33-year-old player could be frozen out completely for the remaining eight months of his £220,000-a-week contract at the Etihad unless his agent shows how much he cares for his client and apologizes.

“Until he doesn’t speak, Yaya is not going to play.” he said. I am old generation, and old generation managers has to make his players his job and trainers his job, and today the managers believe they are more than they are.

“If City want to keep paying him not to play, then that is up to them. Until he doesn’t speak, Yaya is not going to play”.

“But what I can tell you is that Yaya will spend the season at City”, he said.

It did not take long for the Spaniard to get a response though, with the agent claiming that Guardiola owes a few apologies of his own and can not stop him speaking out for his clients.

“Guardiola’s phone call was a huge part of me deciding to go there”.

Guardiola managed Barcelona until 2012, then after a year’s sabbatical moved to Bayern Munich for three seasons before taking over City this summer.

“If Pep wants to prove himself as a great manager, then he should go to Zaragoza or Sunderland”.

“Yaya was four days off with a headache, he was not here”, Guardiola confirmed before adding he was now back in training.

The words irked Guardiola and he responded before Wednesday’s EFL Cup third-round against Swansea City and said that Touré will not play in the club unless his agent retracts his statement. I live in Europe so I can say whatever I like and Guardiola can’t stop me. These are the biggest players of the club. Guardiola will not tell me what I must say or what I must not say.
