Gary Patterson says RB Shaun Nixon is out for season

Last season Boykin completed 65 percent of his passes for 3,575 yards and 31 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions. That’s an obvious nod to the coaching skills of the defensive-minded Patterson, who redid his offense two years ago. TCU must replace Trevone Boykin, a dynamic athlete who won the job two years over Matt Joeckel in a battle Patterson likens to the race this year. As a head coach, I have a lot more energy and excited about this season going into it than a year ago.

And everyone expects the A&M transfer, Kenny Hill, to beat out Foster Sawyer.

“I thought they improved this spring, so I’m like everyone else, I’m kind of excited about this season”, said Patterson, during Monday’s Big 12 Media Day.

Coming off an injury-filled 2015 season, the TCU Horned Frogs are off to a bad start in 2016, with running back Shaun Nixon set to miss the entire season.

“You know, Baylor is not my problem”, Patterson said.

Hill would seem to have the edge, given that he started eight games for the Aggies against an SEC schedule in 2014 before falling out of favor with coach Kevin Sumlin. “We will have to approach it and see how our scrimmages go”. “Whoever makes the offense better and who can lead the team and make less mistakes”. “Our September is going to be a tough one going into the rest of the Big 12 schedule”. Nixon and Kyle Hicks were looked at as the replacements for Green’s 1,200 yards. “That’s going to be very important for us, to understand going forward that you’ve got to win as a team when you don’t have some of those guys that we had a year ago that were All-Americans”. Furthermore, Nixon had a 29-yard touchdown pass in the victory against Texas.

The Horned Frogs also added former MI running back Derrick Green as a graduate transfer who is eligible to play in 2016.
