Pinkel, who stressed Saturday night that he feels well, anxious that it might be impossible for them to play with the intensity they’d need.
“You definitely could tell he had something to tell us, but we didn’t know, and he was crying”, Moore said. I know this works’.
“He was so committed and emotional after a loss like that”.
A statement from the school said Pinkel informed his staff and the team on Friday that this would be his last season.
He said he had a PET scan on October 26, met with his family and decided the next day that this season would be his last.
One can make the argument no game has ever appeared on BYU’s football schedule that offered more learning opportunities than Saturday’s contest with the University of Missouri, which, unfortunately for the BYU faithful, ended with a disappointing 20-16 loss before a patchwork crowd of 42,824 fans at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The winningest coach in school history revealed he had been diagnosed with lymphoma in May, and had undergone several rounds of treatment over the summer.
By the end of the week, the furor on their Columbia campus had slowly begun to wane.
“I’m a big Mizzou fan”, said MU sophomore Aaron Ladd.
Missouri has been at the front of headlines over racial tensions at the university.
‘Obviously, I’m so appreciative to all of my coaches and athletes. In fact, it might be the first time a Division I, Power 5 Conference team took such a step to ensure that the right thing be done-in their humble opinion. “And I’m going to miss him”. The team joined forces with a student activist group that had been trying to get the president’s attention for months.
JC playoff pairings: City College of San Francisco and College of San Mateo are the top two Northern California seeds in playoff pairings announced Sunday by the California Community College Athletic Association’s bowl-game selection committee.
“Because of the week, (this win) will be up there forever”, said Pinkel. In the subsequent days, Pinkel professed his support for the team, system president Tim Wolfe and chancellor R. Bowen Loftin announced their resignations, and anonymous threats of a terrorist attack in Columbia were made on social media.
Pinkel will leave Missouri with six years remaining on the contract he signed in April. “I love the (heck) out of coach Pinkel”. “We are extremely appreciative of all that he has done for Mizzou”.

Missouri’s game against BYU will by Gary Pinkel’s 189th in 15 seasons as coach of the Tigers. Sam went on to become the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team, though he is now out of professional football. “Two years ago he was a half away from playing for the national championship. That’s kind of how we looked at it with this”.
