Gas prices continue to inch upward after a pipeline rupture in Alabama led to shortages, and hundreds of North Carolinians have filed complaints about potential price gouging, according to the state attorney general’s office.
Colonial Pipeline said it was working “around the clock” to fix the break and supplies have either been delivered or are on their way to locations in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina. It supplies a large amount of the gasoline to power automobiles in the eastern section of the United States.
“We’re trying to secure product through barges, from other markets, provided it’s legal to do so and if we can, trying to see if railroad cars out there have gasoline”, Thornbrugh said.
Fuel supplies in at least five states – Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas – were threatened by the spill, and the U.S. Department of Transportation ordered the company responsible to take corrective action before the fuel starts flowing again.

A sign on a gas station pump near Interstate 20 in Atlanta tells customers that fuel will be more expensive Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, since the store had to get it from Savannah, Georgia after a pipeline spilled, causing shorta. Gone are the days when full-sized sedans got 8-10 miles per gallon, running on leaded gas. It’s unclear when the spill actually began. Alabama governor Robert Bentley toured the incident command center today in Shelby County and says work on the pipeline should be completed this week.
AAA reported the price of regular gas in Georgia jumped more than 5 cents from Sunday’s average of $2.26 to just over $2.31. The national average has increased 5.1 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 9.3 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago. He said he would likely run out of gas the next day.

SC motorists are seeing an average price of $2.04, up from $1.91 last week. If the fuel shortages and price spikes reach Connecticut, Curry said the first to experience those effects would be unbranded service stations. “I guess it’ll be spotty I don’t think the rest of the country is being affected just the South”, he said.
There have been some reports by viewers of gas prices shooting up to more than $4.00 a gallon at some stations in the metro area.

The governor’s statement says state officials are working to make sure that motorists are protected from excessive gas prices and minimize any interruptions in fuel supplies.
