Gas prices at an all time low for the holidays

Those lower prices have Americans hitting the road.

The International Energy Agency predicts low prices to continue though 2016, due to a strong dollar, sluggish demand in Europe and Asia, and the coming lifting of economic sanctions from Iran, which will expand its oil production.

In South Carolina, the statewide average Monday afternoon was $1.77, according to GasBuddy.com. The highest was $3.79 at station near Miami International Airport, where travelers fill up their rental cars.

According to AAA, it has been 2,449 consecutive days since gas has been below $2 a gallon.

Seasonal patterns are also a factor, with gas prices generally falling through early winter as driving and fuel use decline, according to AAA.

AAA said gas prices have dropped because there is more than enough oil and gasoline supply around the world to meet demand.

The national average gasoline price is expected to tick slightly higher throughout the busiest travel period of the year as GasBuddy has observed prices moving higher in the Great Lakes.
