On Monday, the price of regular gas in Broward County averaged $2.26 cents per gallon, up 6 cents from a week earlier but down 3 cents from a month ago. The state average is five cents less than one week ago, six cents less than last month, and 74 cents per gallon cheaper than previous year on this date.

The price hike ends a two-week stretch where pump prices had fallen in New Jersey. For the 484th straight day, the national average stood lower than the same day past year, dating back to July 13, 2014. There, it’s at $2.12 per gallon of regular unleaded gas. South Carolina has the lowest at $1.95 per gallon. Since that day, oil prices rose $4.70, peaking at $47.90 on Tuesday. Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, cited recent increases in crude oil prices as the cause for the national increase.

Gas prices shot up 10 cents over the last week, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 567 Richmond gas stations.

A small rise in oil prices sent the price of gas up temporarily last week, but gas prices appear headed down for the rest of this year, travel club AAA says.
