The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.545 per gallon, which is eight-tenths of a cent less than last week.

DeHaan warned that prices in Northern California could increase up to 20 cents or more over a week’s time.

“We’ve seen many times before where the wholesale prices spike crazily and then very quickly go back down, so the hope is that this is what will happen here too”, Montgomery told the Orange County Register.

Just last weekend, the region was looking at quite the opposite situation.

In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.48, unchanged from last week, 19 cents less than last month, and 66 cents less than past year.

“The federal government’s report Wednesday identified California supply problems that are compounded by a dearth of imports where they’re most needed”, said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy’s senior petroleum analyst.

Indio and Desert Hot Springs residents are best to visit their local ARCO stations on Jefferson Street and North Indian Canyon Drive for prices of $3.15 and $3.17 a gallon, respectively.

The sudden rise in gas prices comes after almost 50 days of gas prices dropping.
