Low gas prices have saved the average driver about $540 this year, according to Kloza. The national average has decreased 8.4 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 39.4 cents lower than one year ago.
“A global oversupply of oil has led to the lowest gas prices for the year-end holidays since 2008”, said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group.
Midland Odessa- $1.82/g, down 1.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $1.84/g.
The falling prices continue despite predictions of record Christmas holiday travel.
More than 100 million people are expected to travel this holiday season, Pompeani said, with 91.3 million of them driving.
But according to GasBuddy.com, the price tracking website, the average has fallen to $ 1.99 per gallon which is the first time that it has fallen below $ 2 since Mar 2009. Compared to previous year, the prices are $.41 cents lower.
According to AAA, it has been 2,449 consecutive days since gas has been below $2 a gallon.
“There has not been a better time in years for motorists to extend their trips and travel farther, as sub-$2 per gallon gas can be found at nearly 70 percent of stations in the country”, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.
Residents of Colorado Springs and Pueblo are both now enjoying gas cheaper than the national average.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a combination of low prices at the pump and a healthy economy”, DeHaan observed.
