Gatorade going organic with 3 new flavors

The beverage giant PepsiCo has a surprise for people who are trying to eat healthy and organic whenever possible but are still tempted to reach for a sports drink every now and then.

With 70 percent of the sports drink market in its pocket, according to Beverage Digest, it would appear that Gatorade doesn’t really need to move into organic.

The new organic Gatorade is already been tested in Kroger Co. supermarkets, where consumers were provided with strawberry, mixed berry and lemon beverages. It also transits from “Natural Flavors” to “Organic Natural Flavors”.

Gatorade in past was criticized for its ingredients that many referred as less healthy. At first, G Organic will only be sold in single-serve bottles.

In 2015, sales of organic merchandises in the US touched a record high of $43.3 billion, increasing 11 percent since 2014.

Moreover, the company removes colors which have been associated with many illnesses. A brand extension of Gatorade – which already includes zero-calorie G2 – could confuse consumers.

PepsiCo is facing increasing pressure as consumers are focused more than ever on the ingredients used to make the products they buy. “But you have to be very careful about alienating your current customers in a bid to attract lapsed customers or new customers”. It contains seven ingredients: water, organic cane sugar, citric acid, organic natural flavor, sea salt, sodium citrate, and potassium chloride.

Gatorade is contending with a growing list of all-natural competitors that are taking aim at the brand’s market dominance.

Gatorade was originally developed in a lab at the University of Florida in 1965.

A single-ingredient product like coconut water benefits from a lack of such engineering.

Out of a possible 5 star rating, I couldn’t give Organic Gatorade more than 3 stars due to its high amount of sugar.

Does making Gatorade organic change much of anything from a health perspective?

It has been said so as organic Gatorade will be having a lot of sugar in each bottle.

PepsiCo announced a new organic Gatorade product will be called'G Organic and will come in strawberry lemon and mixed berry flavors
