Gavin Long suffered from PTSD

In his post, Jackson talks about the difficulty of being both a black man and a police officer in the city of Baton Rouge.

“We haven’t ruled out anything, but there’s nothing to believe that we can say it has something to do with that”, Edmonson said.

“We can and do provide the best quality law enforcement that we can but we cannot be held responsible for the social issues such as poverty, lack of mental health services, unemployment, and abject poverty”.

Visitation and funeral services for Garafola, 45, are slated for Saturday.

The aunt of Alton Sterling and the father of a slain Baton Rouge police officer met, embraced and prayed together at a growing makeshift memorial in the city on Monday evening – a powerful scene that was caught on video by ABC News.

The officers had been ambushed by 29-year-old Gavin Long of Kansas City, Missouri, who was shot dead by a SWAT officer.

There will be another vigil Tuesday at 7 P.M. honoring all three officers.

Richard Carbo told The Associated Press that Gov. John Bel Edwards was meeting Sunday with officers and their families. He said after the meeting that what happened in Baton Rouge is a reminder of the extraordinary risks and dangers that law enforcement officers take every day “to protect us and our way of life”.

He was discharged at the rank of sergeant in 2010, after serving in Iraq.

“You know the person that perpetrated the events on Sunday was not even from our community here in Baton Rouge or from the state of Louisiana so I think our community is very strong, we’re very united, doesn’t mean we don’t have problems, we’ll address those problems as a community and I think we were doing that and people that come in from outside our community to cause trouble have no place here”, Baton Rouge resident Corey Sylvest said. “All funds will go directly to Montrell Jackson’s wife, Trenisha Jackson, and newborn son, Mason”. His casket will have a Superman shield, he said. “They want to see progress, change”, Breaux said.

“How many more innocent people have to be killed before they bring those two officers to justice?” asked Quenton Williams, who described his own struggles with the court system as visitors took photos and laid flowers in front of the ramshackle convenience store where Sterling was killed.

Video of Sterling’s death helped spark a national debate about the relationship between the police and the black community. Jackson was black, as was the gunman.

Jackson posted on Facebook that he was physically and emotionally exhausted. “I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me at threat”, he wrote.

President Barack Obama has published an open letter to law enforcement following two deadly shootings that claimed eight officers’ lives. And I think black people and all people need to know that.

“He was a gentle giant”, he said. However, it is unclear whether Long was diagnosed with PTSD. He also peddled self-published books about empowerment and spiritual enlightenment. 0845 hrs., East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Deputy Bradford Garafola was tragically and senselessly killed in the Line of Duty as he worked one last extra duty assignment at the B Quik Gas Station on Airline Highway before taking his wife and children (my sister, nieces and nephew) on their summer vacation.
