Gay community outraged over ban on blood donation
Immediately after the Orlando nightclub shooting massacre, there was a large outpouring of support not only from the Orlando community but also across the nation.

Some reports were circulating that OneBlood, a donation center near Pulse nightclub, where the shooting occurred, was not following the ban – Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan told CNN that the ban was lifted. “Voluntary, unpaid blood donation is the act of giving life – the greatest gift any person can give or receive”, said Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General.
“We are making an appeal to all the Muslims here”, says Inayet Malik of the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati.
Firefighters from all over Florida who attended a conference in Jacksonville donated blood Monday morning to assist with the shortage in Orlando.
You can set up your appointment with any Hoxworth Blood Center by calling 513-451-0910.
The new policy brought the U.S.in line with Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and other countries, and researchers said it could slightly increase the US blood supply.
Concluding, the centre announced that the events for Blood Donors Day will culminate with a concert at the Famagusta Gate moat on 23 June at 19:00.
The ban on gay men donating blood has its roots in fear, fear of a disease that was ravaging one very specific community at the time.
“While many gay and bisexual men will be eligible to donate their blood and help save lives under this 12-month deferral, countless more will continue to be banned exclusively on the basis of their sexual orientation and without medical or scientific reasoning”, the group said in a statement. The previous policy had a lifelong ban on men who had sex with other men.
“Current HIV blood tests are incredibly sensitive and accurate”.

We know that many people want to help. “The results clearly show that we need to educate the masses about the importance of blood donation and make them aware as to how safe it is”. And a single blood donation can go into the arms of three different people, the American Red Cross says.
